Khayamia pieces for textile collectors

Every piece in this gallery is documented with its maker, technique, and provenance. Nothing is anonymous here — and every sale goes directly to the tentmaker's family on Sharia al-Khayamia.

Why Khayamia Now

Roughly twenty to thirty workshops remain active on Sharia al-Khayamia. The supply of genuinely hand-stitched appliqué work is finite — the craft passes between generations, and the number of practitioners working in the traditional mode remains small.

The tradition is widely recognised as endangered living heritage, and international interest among textile collectors has grown steadily. Pieces from Tentmakers' Street have found their way into private collections and cultural institutions around the world as awareness of the craft has spread.

For private collectors, the window to acquire documented, maker-attributed work at gallery prices — rather than auction premiums — remains open. The pieces in this gallery are selected directly from workshops with sustained, multigenerational practice.

Documentation and Provenance

Every listing includes the maker's name, the estimated hours of work, the dye types used (natural or synthetic, and where sourced when known), and the historical reference for the central motif. Where the piece comes from a workshop whose lineage we can trace, that lineage is noted.

Pieces over $500 are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the maker. We can provide supplementary documentation — photographs of the piece in progress, a letter from the workshop — on request for significant acquisitions.

Khayamia pieces are not reproductions of an older world. They are the latest iteration of a living argument about what beauty in cloth can mean: how much geometry a hand can hold, how much colour a room can bear.

The Acquisition Process

Every piece in the gallery is available on a request basis. Because each panel is handmade and one of a kind, we confirm its condition and calculate an accurate shipping cost before you commit. Submit a request; we respond within 24 hours with a final total and a payment link.

We ship from Cairo via EMS or DHL depending on value, with full insurance for pieces over $500. Each piece travels in a custom-made archival tube with acid-free tissue wrapping and a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the maker.

For collectors building a sustained relationship with the tradition — acquiring multiple pieces over time, or interested in first access to new work as it comes off the frame — contact us directly to discuss a standing arrangement with one of our represented workshops.
