Khayamia panels rolled and prepared for international shipping at a Cairo workshop

Worldwide shipping

Worldwide shipping for Khayamia orders

Every piece ships from Cairo with full insurance, archival packaging, and a tracking number — to over 120 countries. Here is exactly how it works.

Packaging

Every Khayamia panel — whether a 30 × 30 cm study or a 150 × 200 cm collector piece — is rolled, never folded. Cotton appliqué panels can hold a crease permanently if folded; rolling on an acid-free core preserves the stitching and the ground fabric.

The rolled piece is wrapped in acid-free tissue, then in a cotton dust sleeve, and placed inside a custom-made rigid cardboard tube reinforced with kraft paper end caps. For pieces over $500, the tube is over-packed in a second outer box with foam inserts. The Certificate of Authenticity, care instructions, and — where applicable — provenance documentation travel inside the tube alongside the piece.

Carriers and Transit Times

We ship via Egypt Post EMS for orders under $300 and via DHL Express for orders of $300 and above. DHL is faster and offers door-to-door tracking; EMS is slower but reliable for smaller, lower-value pieces. Both services provide a tracking number at dispatch.

Transit times from Cairo: Europe 3–7 business days (DHL), 7–14 days (EMS). North America 5–10 business days (DHL), 10–21 days (EMS). Australia and East Asia 7–14 business days (DHL), 14–28 days (EMS). These are typical ranges; customs clearance occasionally adds time.

Insurance and Declared Value

All shipments are insured for their full declared value. For DHL shipments, insurance is included in the shipping cost. For EMS shipments, insurance is purchased separately and added to your order total at checkout.

We declare accurate values on customs forms — we do not undervalue shipments to reduce import duties. This protects you: a correctly declared piece can be insured, recovered, or reimbursed if it is lost or damaged in transit. An undervalued piece cannot.

Import duties and taxes are the buyer's responsibility and vary by country. Rates depend on the declared value, the item's customs classification, and your country's import rules. We recommend checking with your local customs authority if you are concerned about a specific order.

The piece has crossed an ocean or two to reach you. The packaging should reflect that — it should arrive looking like something that was cared for at every stage.

Customs, Returns, and Problems

We provide full customs documentation with every shipment: a commercial invoice, a packing list, and — where required — a certificate of origin. Khayamia panels are classified as handmade textile art; we include a description of the making process with each shipment to assist customs classification.

Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery for gallery pieces in original condition. Contact us before returning any piece; do not repackage without guidance, as incorrect rolling can damage the appliqué. Return shipping costs are the buyer's responsibility unless the piece arrived damaged.

If a piece arrives damaged, photograph the outer packaging before opening it, then photograph the piece. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery. We will initiate an insurance claim on your behalf and arrange a replacement or full refund once the claim is resolved.
